I did previously register but when I put in my credit card information, it comes back payment denied. Does anyone know why (I know the card is good).
Try it again. check every digit carefully. Then if it fails, have another person check it.
John, they don't tell you how to enter the number. Is there suppose to be spaces between the numbers as the card shows it or all numbers together? I put the number in a few times so I know the numbers thenselves were correct but still nothing.
Since it's a foreign website, your card company may be denying purchases, fearing fraud. Contact them to see if the transaction has been attempted.
I just put in my credit card number, no dashes or spaces. When I purchased a ticket the other day, within 30 seconds of the transaction going through, my credit card company was calling me because of "suspicious activity", ie a foreign transaction. Your credit card company may be denying it for the same reason.
No, I immediately thought of that so I called them (Capital One) and they said they do not see any transactions coming thru from Trenitalia. Capital One is saying it must be on their part. ????? Is there only a certain time that a person can buy tickets? I don't know what to do now?????
I just booked three different train legs with Trentitalia and had the same trouble. I discussed with both our bank and credit card company and they could find nothing wrong on this end. I ended up using three different credit cards for each transaction. Apparently some cards they are no longer accepting (some banks don't conform to their security system).
Try: a different card, a different email.
Fran, The whole point in getting Capital One CC was that they are one of the few banks that don't charge any extra fees for international transactions. If I use another bank's CC, I will have to pay the extra fees which defeat the purpose of buying the discounted tickets here in the states. Also, if they won't accept Capital One here, then they probably won't accept them in Italy either. So, why is everyone suggesting them as the card to use over there? I am really confused and disgusted. (just a reminder to whomever reads this, I did check out the card with the bank and they see no trouble with it--they know I going out of the country also)
Had the same problem. Eventually gave up, and we just bought our tickets as we traveled...and in the end, I think it was BETTER that way. Now I wouldn't want to purchase in advance. Gave us flexibility when we needed or wanted it...and was SO easy.
Thank you everyone for your advise but nothing seems to be working and I still have my original problem. Anyone have any new advise for me?
Linda: There are many discussions here and on other travel sites (i.e. Trip Advisor) about the problems people have buying train tickets on-line. It is a very common problem - whether our cards don't conform to their security or our credit card companies won't approve transactions on their system is unclear. It is very, very easy to buy train tickets once you get to Italy, just print off a copy of the schedule and get them there. There are rumors that some people have actually been able to order them on-line, but except in very rare instances you'll be able to get tickets there, so save yourself the aggrevation.
Thank you Thomas but I'm concerned about getting Amica discounted tickets and afraid if I wait untill I arrive, they will be sold out. I'm interested in the 2nd class Amica tickets for early May. Do you think they will be available for me to purchase there? Thanks again!
If any of the allotted seats are still available, you can get Amica fares on trains that offer them up to midnight of the day before departure. If you buy all your tickets on the day you first arrive in Italy, you stand a good chance of getting Amica fares, particularly for trips toward the end of your time there.
I have tried countless times, with numerous credit cards, to obtain rail tickets on the Trenitalia website. I've now reached the point where the cost savings of pre-purchased Amica tickets is just not worth the aggravation and wasted time trying to fight that website. Naturally, I will always look for ways to save money, but the difference between Standard and Amica fares is a tiny fraction of my overall trip cost. With this in mind, I will relax, and take other peoples' advice to simply purchase the tickets when I arrive in Italy.
I've been able to get Amica fares 3-4 days before my trip. Since I'm usually arrive into a city a train station, I just tickets for my next trip before I leave the station. Trips haven't coincided with heavy-travle holidays, so perhaps I've just been lucky, LOL.
Thanks everyone for all your help....I tried all the different suggestions like using a different CC and using a different e-mail, but to no avail(yahoo worked for someone...not for me). So I'm listening to what majority is saying....I'm just getting my tickets when we first arrive and as it's stated, I probably still will be able to get the Amica tickets. I appreciate everyone putting my mind at ease and now I can concentrate on looking forward to leaving in a few weeks. Thanks all!
