I am trying to buy tickets for the Capitoline Museums in Rome online and having a hard time navigating the web site and can't seem to actually purchase the tickets. Sounds like it is very easy to purchase the tickets at the box office there. Can anyone tell me if the are typically lines for this set of museums, or am I OK to just buy a ticket on the day I get there and walk right in. Also are there any restrictions, can I tour the museums without a group/guide?
Thank you
When I was there a year ago, it was just walk in, buy the ticket, and away you go. I did not get the impression that the museum is ever really crowded, too many other places overshadowing it.
I should add that the entry process at the time also included a check of vaccination cards and a security check, and still, no real delay.
Same in April 2022. Walked in and bought tix, not crowded at all
As others have stated, the museum is never crowded and you just walk up and buy a ticket. You are free to wander around but be sure not to miss the Tabularium, the underground passageway between the two buildings that make up the museum complex. It provides a wonderful view of the Forum. There is also a rooftop cafe where you can get lunch and drinks. This is one of my favorite museums in Rome.

Thanks very much to everyone for the quick responses! Good to know I don't have to spend any more time on this.
Thanks again
We just returned from Italy this week. There were no lines there for tickets.
Thanks for asking this! I was hoping that not needing to book was the case although I've not been to this museum in a number of years. I was planning to work it in one afternoon but wasn't sure of my timing so now...no worries!
