First timer. Staying in Sorrento at the end of October and hoping crowds have thinned. I planned a DIY trip Capri i.e. not a tour from Sorrento, with a ferry over, boat trip to circumnavigate the island and the rest of day for exploration and ferry back. I have an entire day to see The Coast and seeking budget conscious options which most likely can not include a private driver. By land or by sea? Which towns do you suggest? Thank you.

I am going in November. Was going to stay in Sorrento but except for seeing Sorrento and a hopefully weather agreeable day to Capri (there on a previous visit), I was going to be spending 4 days on the AC. Looking at it that way, I will stop in Sorrento from Naples for the day, skip Capri, and stay in Amalfi. Busses from Sorrento to AC stop in Amalfi and busses from Salerno stop in Amalfi, so I thought that was a much better option. In an unusual twist I am not staying in an apt in Amalfi but a hotel right in front of the bus "depot" as I do not want to expend any energy in climbing hills to my normal accommodation-apartments.
