Truffle Festivals

The Interntional Alba White Truffle Market that begins in early October and lasts till the end of the month was wonderful. Don’t miss the donkey Palio. This region of the Piedmont is a wonderful area to visit - wineries, tastings, great food, spectacular scenery and welcoming people. And not that many foreign tourists. Make reservations early because the area gets busy due to the festival. A lot of Italians make it a “long weekend” at that time of year so places do fill up.

Unless there’s a specific event you’d want to attend at the Market, I’d suggest visiting Alba during the week. I stayed at the Agriturismo Tre Stelle in Barbaresco and recommend it highly. Koki’s Wine Bar in town is great for a quick bite. Three great restaurants among the vineyards were Ristorante Rabayá and Tasté near Barbaresco and Io e Lune in Pometto.

San Miniato in Tuscany, not far from Lucca and Pisa has a good festa. It an old evocative hill town that is very famous for it's white truffles. It happens I believe on the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th weekends of November. Further south Sant'Angelo in Vado in the Marche has a good truffle fair on weekends at the end of October / beginning of November.
