I've tried 3 times to reserve advance tickets online for the Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel. Entered all data only to receive the message "operation not completed." Card is good--just used it to reserve train tickets and payment went through fine. Emailed the help line, no response. Ideas? Thanks.
Use a different card-had the same problem, changed card, went through.
Let your banks know you are making purchases at an Italian website. I received one of those "confirm the charge" messages from the fraud department at my bank the other day when I was trying to make reservations.
I also had to call my bank, get on with the fraud department and had them do something to get the charge to go through. The process including me getting a text to my cell phone that I had to approve during the purchase.
Thank you, friends! Charge went through with my husband's card and I am about to call 800 number about my card. Trenitalia reservations did not trigger this so I'm still a little baffled. RS advice to have a backup card is sound!
You're finding what a lot of the rest of use have experienced. For no clear reason, sometimes a card will work in one situation and not another.
If you have problems in the future of this nature, it's worth trying a different browser (Chrome, Opera, Firefox) or a different device (computer, tablet, phone). For again inexplicable reasons, sometimes one will work when another will not.
Also, if a credit card doesn't work, it's worth calling the card company. They can tell you if the transaction went through but was blocked (in which case, they can remove the block), or if it never got to them to be rejected (in which case they can't help, and you should try another card or browser or device).
