Trouble Purchasing Scrovegni Chapel Tickets – Anyone Else?

Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out to see if anyone else is having issues purchasing tickets for the Scrovegni Chapel in Padova for dates in September. The booking site is Vivaticket (the official ticketing agent), where I already have an account and have successfully used in the past.

Here are the relevant sites:

The “Book Now” button on the official chapel site redirects to Vivaticket, but currently there seems to be no option to actually select under “Credit Card” payment. I’ve emailed both Vivaticket and the Scrovegni site admins and am waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, has anyone experienced the same issue? Any tips or workarounds?

Also, side question: does anyone have insight on the Urbs Picta ticket vs. a regular Monday (non-holiday) ticket? We’re planning our visit for a Monday — is that a good idea or should we reconsider the Tuesday-Sunday, Urbs Picta, etc. We're there only 3-days.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Yep— I saw a notice once that said Scrovegni Chapel tix were going on sale back on June 25 for dates following September 1 and I have not yet been able to buy them either.
Now the website says they just went on sale today.
I can get all the way to payment by credit card and the screen gives no option to enter the credit card number and pay.

Who came up with this website design?
The only consolation is that this is July and I see availability for tomorrow and beyond, so it seems as though they do not often sell out.
Possibly because payment is impossible so no one can buy the tix online?!

The website does list physical locations throughout Italy where you can buy them in advance in person.

Thanks Kenko, good to know we’re experiencing the same issue. Hopefully Vivaticket will resolve the issue and reply to my email. I assume it’s a glitch that’s easily solved.

If I here back I’ll post here.

Unless you must visit at a specific time on a specific day (or are a very large group of people), there won't be a problem getting tickets much, much closer to the day of your visit. Tickets are normally available 24 hours in advance. You can relax about this for a long time.

In early September 2019, I bought us tickets from the official website for two days later. 26 euros and they do come combined with the Eremitani museum (interesting and a nice place to spend time if it's raining or buggy outside). That 15 minutes was not enough so I bought the double-visit tickets for a couple nights later. That gave us a total of at least 45 minutes inside the chapel and whatever it cost, it was well worth it.

Post-pandemic, I imagine there is more demand for tickets, but I agree with the others that you do not need to buy tickets this early. Also, I would not be surprised to learn that they are monkeying with their website --- at least, I have sure had this happen to me with some Italian websites and ticket-purchasing websites. Never had much luck emailing, not even in Italian --- if there is a phone number, you could try calling during their business hours. But I really think that you just need to wait for a few weeks and try to buy tickets again. Sorry it's been frustrating!

The website now is showing only Mondays in September, but plenty of tickets available. Guessing more days will be added "soon."

Update: I heard back from Vivaticket, and the issue has been resolved:

"Dear Customer, the credit card payment problem has been resolved, please proceed with your purchase again."

Thank you all for your helpful replies. When you plan a trip months—or even years—in advance to see something as special as the Scrovegni Chapel, it’s stressful when a technical glitch threatens those plans. Your comments about successfully purchasing tickets closer to the visit helped ease my concerns while the system was down.

I had a backup plan just in case, but thankfully it wasn’t needed.

SuperTuscan,
Thank you for the update and good news!
We’re driving into Padova from the Dolomites exclusively to see the Scrovegni Chapel and then need to be in Venice by late afternoon. That made buying the timed- ticket really vital.
Carpe Diem!

I previously tried to buy a ticket through this website and came away with the understanding that one could only buy a ticket two months in advance or less. Now the website seems to say you can buy through November. In my case, I am now within that two month window and just successfully used the website. I now have a Urbs Picta pass printed out and in my hot little hand starting September 16. There were a few hiccups navigating the website but I just kept on telling myself that I must not be seeing something. For example, I couldn't enter my name and address but it turned out that you had to click on a blue "edit" square to continue. To get started, you have to register, click on a link in an email they send you, and get an activation code via text. Be sure to check off all the little "I accept" squares. I did not accept getting email notifications about events and that was not a hindrance.

I was confused by the choice between which ticket to choose but as you proceed through the website it's clear whether you are getting what you want. I chose the Tuesday-Sunday 72 hour pass. It's not that much more than the 48 hour pass and whether I really have time for one more visit somewhere on my last morning, I figure I am supporting the arts.

Good luck!

We’ll be there the first week in October. I have a reminder under August 1 to check and buy tickets.
Happy to read that the payment issues are fixed.
