Trouble printing tickets purchased through RailEurope

Can anyone help us with tickets purchased online through RailEurope? I had read a few negative comments about this service before our trip, but really wanted to feel that we had transportation among our different destinations nailed down. Yesterday we traveled from Monterosso to Lucca. We didn't have any problem on the Monterossoto to Viarregio leg, which was an Intercity train. Even though we couldn't print our tickets at the automated kiosk, the conductor checked our confirmation number and we were fine. However, on the Viarregio to Lucca leg, which was a Regionale train, we again couldn't print our tickets and the ticket agent at the station didn't seem to know how to help us. We ended up having to "repurchase" our tickets on board the train along with paying extra. Is there a trick to printing an e-ticket that we don't know about? We have another set of tickets for tomorrow going from Lucca to Firenze and then on to Siena, and we really don't want to end up in the same situation. THANKS for any suggestions you can offer!

If you have emails containing the ticket information, you can access email and print them out at your hotel or at a Western Union. I never use Raileurope, but if you received notification, you should be able to print and show that. Or, if you have etickets, show that to the conductor and he/she can scan the bar code/icon.

If you purchased tickets through Rail Europe, you won't be able to print them from the kiosks in Italian train stations. Only tickets purchased through TrenItalia.com or at a kiosk itself can be printed at a station kiosk. Your best bet will be to print them from your hotel or an Internet Café.

I am a little confused by your posting. Did you purchase tickets through RailEurope while you were in the US? In your response to Shirley on 8/11/14 you indicated that you had purchased tickets through Trenitalia and gave detail instructions on how to do it. Which sounds like what you did when the conductor checked your confirmation number. Second, separate Regionale tickets can only be purchased seven days in advance and the standard recommendation is to never purchase separate Regionale tickets on-line. So maybe your didn't purchase Regionale tickets in advance. If you purchased a reserved ticket on-line from Trenitalia that includes a Regionale train, then that ticket will be part of the original tickets. Did you try your original confirmation number? If dealing with RailEurope issued tickets you may have the same problem. But if you have purchased through Trenitalia then take all you confirmations to a ticket agent and let them sort it out. But you have to know where you purchased your tickets. RailEurope and Trenitalia are not the same.

Also look for a local travel agent, they may be able to assist you.

We had no problems booking with Trenitalia. We could not register and just bought tickets as guests. There are no barcodes like Renfe. We were told to print the receipt and give the booking number to the conductor and you do not really have ticket, just a confirmation number. Is this true?

Thanks for all your thoughts on this! We purchased our tickets through AAA while in the US. We have printed receipts with six digit alpha numerical codes, but nothing scannable. We were told by triple A that we had to purchase within 60 days, not 7, so we did. This morning we are walking down to the station early to see what we can do...Funny - we didn't have any trouble getting our Trenitalia tickets online, but those were for Frecca and Intercity trains and these are Regionale. Thanks again for your help! We'll see what happens!

Thank you for all the help! We finally got to the bottom of the mystery with a hint from fellow travelers. When printing a ticket from the automated kiosk, hit Collect Tickets, enter the six number letter code, then enter surname of the person who booked the tickets. The next prompt reads Modify Surname, and you need to enter your first name here. The tickets printed!! Yay!
