Tropea and nearby??

Our vacation in Puglia is coming to an end and I am already dreaming about our next trip to southern Italy. My partner just read an article about Tropea on Business Insider and that got me thinking....the town, has been on my list for years, with a big question mark....but we have never been...

We've booked Girona and Begur for September, and I am researching Sardinia for next spring...but could fit Tropea in during 2027, I think...

Curious if anyone could comment on their stay in that town, or offer hotel recommendations.
My partner has difficulty walking so I wonder if the beaches are so far below the town that it might not work for us, unless there is a good hotel ON a beach...

If the town totally oriented toward tourism...? Are there any flat areas for walking, or are taxis easy to use??
We would have a car.....could explore the inland areas and Reggio.....fly into Reggio or Lamezia...

Just musing about visiting this part of Calabria.....I've only been once, driving along the coast up from
Amantea through Castrovillari (astoundingly great lunch in that town at Locandia d'Alia) Belmonte Calabro, and on for stays in Maratea, which we love....

Any comment will be welcomed...thank you..

We’re stayed at the Hotel Columba D’Oro in Tropea. It has an elevator, pleasant rooms and breakfast.it is on a flat street and there’s an easy walk a wonderful square, Piazza Victoria Veneto.

I enjoyed Tropea, but it's worth knowing that the historic center sits on top of cliffs, so there are quite a few stairs and elevation changes. The views are spectacular, though.

The town is definitely touristy in summer, but it still feels more relaxed and authentic than many famous destinations further north. There are some flatter areas for walking in town, and taxis are available, but I would research hotel locations carefully if mobility is a concern.

Having a car is a big advantage, as the coastline and smaller Calabrian towns nearby are well worth exploring. For me, Tropea was more about the scenery, sea views, and atmosphere than ticking off attractions.

Parghelia is VERY close to Tropea, and with a quieter, much smaller vibe.
Also wonderful beaches in Parghelia.
Enjoy your trip to Italia!
