Tropea and Calabria input

Hi all..going to Calabria in June to visit some family villages. Thinking of base in Tropea..would you all have any input on using Tropea as a base. My family village og Jacurso is within an hour drive. Thinking of just seeing more of Calabria and taking it slow. Thank you!
