Trivoli gardens and Hadrian's Villa

Can anyone recommend the best way to travel to and from this location that would allow for a several hour visit. It seems tours are four hours only, cab is too expensive, and public transit has complex connections to make for a newbee traveler.

Frank. Thanks. I had not found "Ron in Rome" so good information. Based on the web site reading I plan a Roma & Pui pass and to follow the directions out to the site. Can't wait and no need to invite my mother.

The best way is public transit and you have to put up with the connections. They are not particular complex just switch from one to the other. Very easy. We did it two years ago. Go to RoninRome.com for a detailed, and I mean DETAILED, including pictures of how to do. If you cannot follow his directions then you should not be in Rome without your mother.

Why not rent a car at Termini? We just came back from our trip and went to the Galleria Borghese, picked up a rental car near there and drove to Tivoli. We were intending to picnic at Hadrian's Villa, but could not find a mercato. We drove up the hill to Tivoli, parked in the town parkagio and got all the picnic fixins. We had a great picnic and a great view from the hill.
Driving there was simple and allows maximum flexibility. Enjoy

We followed Ron in Rome,s directions and took bus from Rome to Trivoli and a taxi from Trivoli to Villa Hadrians and used the same taxi to get back to Trivoli train station for trip back to Rome. We got taxi drivers cell phone since they are only a few taxis in Hadrian. The cab ride was short and not that expensive. The bus takes you closer to Trivoli and the train station is on the other side of town.
