If I take a train from Rome to either Cecina or Florence....can anyone help me with information on what bus to take to Volterra? Where does the bus stop? How long is the bus ride? Thanks in advance for your help.
Here are the bus schedules of interest to you:
CONNECTIONS FROM FLORENCE:

From and to Florence, you MUST connect at Colle Val d'Elsa to the SITA/TRA-IN buses.

HERE ARE THE CONNECTIONS FROM ROME:
Saline Ferrovia/Volterra:
http://www.cpt.pisa.it/orare/extra/linea863.htm
Cecina Ferrovia/Saline Ferrovia/Volterra:
http://www.cpt.pisa.it/orare/extra/linea865.htm
NOTE well that some bus connections from Rome are better at Saline Ferrovia RATHER THAN Cecina Ferrovia. Study the connections carefully!!!
OPINION: If coming from Rome, definitely find a connection via Cecina or Saline, NOT Florence!!!

Any further questions?
NOTE: The CPT-Pisa buses to and from Volterra have a summer schedule (July/August) and a winter schedule (rest of the year). Make sure you're consulting the correct timetables!!!
The only piece of info I can add is that the bus station is very close to downtown - a couple of blocks. Very safe. Volterra is a lovely town. Between it and Montacino, Montapulciano, or Pienza, I would choose Volterra all over again - having just returned.
