We would like to visit a beach or at least see the coast while visiting Rome. We will be traveling by car from the Molise area to Rome and have considered taking SS630 from Cassino through Formia and Gaeta to SS213 and drive along the coast. Has anyone traveled this route? Any other suggestions for a quick trip to the coast?

The coast heading southbound towards gaeta is a nice one. Especially beautiful are the beaches of Sperlonga and Sabaudia. However I wouldn't call them a "quick trip" as the roads that lead there are generally one lane going, one lane coming and when there is traffic, you can imagine. Still if you do have a full day, I highly recommend these beaches. The Northern coast is also nice, from Fregene up to Santa Marinella.
