Where would be recommended for a two night stay in Rome. We then would like to visit a Ciry on the ocean. Where would you recommend and where to stay. TIA
Rome- I think it depends on what you want to see while you are there. We've always stayed near the Coliseum, but others will recommend Trestevere or near the Spanish steps. Check out booking.com hotels in those areas.
Your other question appears to be asking for a town or city on the Mediterranean or Adriatic? For one night? Is this the same 3 day visit to Italy before you need to be in Munich as on your other thread? Because I can't think of a practical answer really. You need somewhere reasonable close to Rome, so you don't spend all day getting there. And it needs an international airport to get you to Munich. The only place I can think of is Naples. But it's in a bay, not on the sea. And isn't exactly noted for it's beaches.
What time of year? Honestly, it doesn't matter. If it was me, I'd just stay in Rome for the 3 days.
How much time will you have, what time of year will you be going, and where are you flying out of?
What sorts of things do you want to do during your stay?
But backing up, a two-night stay in Rome will give you very little time to explore the many, many things there are to see in that city. Have you been there before, and did you have a reason for allowing only 1 day to sightsee that one?
Editing to add: I've just read your previous post. Could you please provide the date you arrive in Rome and the date/time of day (morning? afternoon?) you must be in Munich? It wouldn't be helpful to provide seaside locations if you simply don't have time to do any of them, and need to be close to an airport to fly to Germany.
However you ask the question, 99% of the replies here are going to be, in essence, with the LIMITED time you have, you should pick just one place.
You can choose 2 or more places, but you are very likely to not really enjoy doing so.
We land in Rome on Saturday January 27th and have three nights and have to be in Munich Germany on Tuesday afternoon January 30th. I have been reading Rick Steves Guide and he has a one day plan and actually suggested for first timers it may be best to do a short trip to Rome and enjoy somewhere else as Rome can be overwhelming. Thanks for all of your reply’s!
If you are determined on a short stay in Rome ( and to me 3 days is a very short stay), then at least select a second city that isn't too far away by train (within 3 hours so you'll actually have a little time to see something in that city), that also has an airport with flights to Munich. Florence and Naples both fit those parameters. If you have to be in place in Munich by mid-afternoon, then you'll need to be able to reach your airport by mid morning. It will likely take all of 6 hours, hotel to hotel, even though the flight will be less than 2 hours.
Although, if you think Rome might be too overwhelming for you, Naples might not be a good choice either?
Also something not frequently mentioned. Go to the top of the The Wedding Cake.
Il Vittoriano. The Victor Emmanuel Monument - it is across the streets from the Forum and Colosseum - take the elevator to the top and there is a 360 view of all of Rome. We spent over 30 minutes up there taking photos - and admiring the views. It was great to see where things are located around the city. You can stay up there as long as you want.
You can also google for photos of it and some of the views.
Re: wedding cake, elevator is located on the backside outdoors. I recall a small fee for going up.
