Trip to Monte Cassino

My husband and I will be in Rome August 12-26. Our first adventure will be to go to Monte Cassino (my mother was born in Cassino). We won't be renting a car. Any suggestions for transportation or reservations?
Thanks.

You can get there by bus or train, then a local bus up to the abbey. Cassino is a great little city.

Getting around to the war cemeteries will be arduous without transportation so a tour could help. The cemetery for the Polish, who finally conquered the peak from the Nazi paratroopers, is particularly worth seeing as it is more like a masoleum than the other nations' burial grounds.

Hallo amgiven, i hope that it is not too late to answer you. I'm a tour guide of Montecassino. The bus that goes to the abbey it is called MASTRANTONI BUS. You can catch it in front of the train station of Cassino. It cost 1 euro each way and you buy the ticket from the bus driver. The bus schedule is: Cassino train station at 9.55, 12.30 and 15.20. retourn from Montecassino at 12.45 and 17.00. Please remenber that the abbey closes for luch from 12.45 to 15.30, but the polish cametery is all day long open. I hope these informations will help you to plan your trip.
Love Anna
