Trip to Milan, Venice and Cinque Terre

Unfortunately, we are flying both in and out of Milan -- first time I have ever done this but the deal was unreal and so I can live with it! We would like to do Milan, Venice and Cinque Terre and are traveling in October. We have 8 nights and am thinking 2 - Milan, 3 -Venice and 3 Cinque Terre. My question is since we are arriving at 12:15 should we just take the train to Venice and then end our trip in Milan so we don't need to stay both in the beginning of the trip and at the end in order to catch or flight in Milan? If we do travel to Venice what is the best and quickest way to catch a train since we will be tired and weary travelers, haha! Any other suggestions of what to do are welcome.

Thanks!

Easiest is to take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale (every 30 minutes), then take a Freccia train to Venice S. Lucia (about every 30 minutes with some gaps). You should be in Venice by 5:40 pm.
Buy tickets from Venice to Cinque Terre (pick a village, Monterosso has the best train service), and CT to Milan up to 90 days ahead to get the best price on nonrefundable non-changeable tickets.

If you have a PIN & chip credit card, you can buy the Milan-Venice train tickets at the Trenitalia kiosk outside the Malpensa Express ticket office at the airport.

Good advice from Sam, tickets can be bought up to 120 days ahead.

Thank you, Sam for your insight. I am seeing that this train from the airport to the station is a little less than an hour - is there another option that would take less time?

No. The airport is a long way from the city center. Train is the fastest, as it isn't effected by traffic.
