Hi mari,

I'm not sure what DFW is but I'm wondering what exactly you're getting for $2500 for 6 nights. My husband & I are flying in March to Rome and got airfare for $664 including taxes for each of us. That's $1328. I then found a room for 80 euro per night. That's about $116 per night. That comes to $2024 for 2 R/T airline tickets and 6 nights in Rome. So if your amount is for just you...keep looking. If it's for 2 of you, you could do better booking each seperately. I have booked thru Priceline and have no complaints. February should hold all kinds of deals.

I have booked through Priceline. It is trustworthy and can be a good experience, though they don't disclose all the details I normally like to know.

The other poster has a point -- you are probably paying for a fancier hotel than you simply must have in Rome -- you can probably do better out of Dallas by booking the flights through Priceline (or another discounter) then book with the hotel directly.

Some other threads have had good hotel recommendations in the 80 - 100 Euro range -- which would be in line with the price you've already stated, and would allow you to get a hotel 'right where' you want it.

When is your trip? Italy has weather somewhat similar to the south coast of the U.S. (for your nearest reference, think Galveston).

I just want to comment on Italy in Feb. I have been here (in Italy) since the middle of Jan. It is COLD! Of course those from Alaska may not agree, but my daughter and I think day after day of 25 - 35 degree highs is cold. The good thing is that there are few crowds. The bad thing is that many things are not open (not easy to find a restaurant open in smaller towns). If you think you can enjoy touring sights such as a church or palace when it is so cold that you can see your breath, you will have a great time!
P.S. We have found that the Italian idea of a heated room is entirely different than what is customary in the US. One night in the Cinque Terre my daughter slept with both hat and gloves on because the room was soooo cold.
