Trip to Italy

I had a trip to Italy planned for June and I decided to postpone it for September. Going for 18 days from the southernmost part (Capri) to up North (Lake Como) and places in between. What do you think the pandemic situation will be at that time? Who knows, you might say. I believe that it should be better than in June. What do you think. Thanks, Jay

There is no way to know what 2022 has in store. In 2021, June was much better than September in terms of caseloads. Personally, I would not postpone, plus June has the benefit of longer days.

We are going to Italy for a week in late May-early June. Of course there is no way to know what the future holds but I am taking a few facts into consideration. Italy has a much higher vaccination rate than the USA (87% of eligible Italians over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated). Everywhere in Italy you have to wear a FFP2 (N95 type) mask. We also will have to take a rapid COVID test before we depart and again before we return. With my home state being at a 62% vaccination rate and masks being a distant memory in most places I feel like I am going to a safer environment for my vacation. I also considered that these so called "100 year pandemics" have typically lasted 30 months, which we will be at in late Spring/early Summer. With all of that in mind I have decided to adopt the mantra from one of my favorite movies of all time, The Shawshank Redemption, "I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying."
Good luck and I hope you have a nice trip whenever it is right for you!

We are booked for May but all can be cancelled no charge @14 days. I am encouraged by the current trends and expect to go. But we do have Hawaii booked also as a backup. September may be better, no one knows...
