Trip to italy

Hi!

This group has been most helpful in another thread, so checking on one more itinerary. This for a 14 day trip (travel time from base country included) to Italy. A friend has suggested the following itinerary for me & my husband and we would like to cover all sorts of experience like romantic rides, adventure, landscape & food.
Cinque Terra
Venice
Rome
Florence
Day trip to Naples
Paris

My doubts:
1) country to fly into ? ( I am flying from India)
2) number of days in each city
3) this is someone else's itinerary. Should i swap any of the above for Amalfi or something to must cover
4) what is the best way to travel within these places (by best i mean least expensive)
5) is this trip overall going to cost me more than a Paris-Amsterdam-Prague itinerary?

Please help me out as i am really struggling to plan this in good budget yet cover great things for us!

When are you planning to go? If you buy tickets in advance, you can get deep discounts on train fares within Italy and on budget flights between European cities. These tickets are usually no-refund/no-change. Train tickets may need to be purchased 3-4 months ahead, flights even earlier, though not all the cheap tickets sell out immediately.

Venice is a good place to start, getting over jetlag in a quieter, slower-paced city. From there, the best route would be Florence, Cinque Terre, Rome by train, then fly to Paris. I'd recommend Venice (3N), Florence (3N), Cinque Terre (2N), Rome (4N) including a day in Naples. That pretty much adds up to 14 days. If you want to squeeze in Paris, I think you'll have to cut out at least one of your Italian stops. You need to allow about 1/2 day for each location change, so 3 nights in Venice, for example, allows you 2 days of sightseeing there.

Hi. Thank you for your response. I am planning to go in August but if that comes out too expensive the other option I have is first week of December, hoping the weather is not a bummer. please advice.

Amalfi is not a good substitute for for CT, with the plan you have to see Venice, Florence and Rome. Amalfi is too far away, given your time constraint.

If you have to push your trip to December, then Venice Florence Rome Paris may be the best destinations. The coastal areas in wintry weather are not likely to be enjoyable. At least in the cities, there are lots of indoor activities, museums etc.

Either way, for the 2 weeks you have, the most destinations you can reasonably do is 4, not 5.

You have two weeks and too many places. I suggest you eliminate Naples. Also Paris. Paris takes a week to absorb. Also, Paris would require another flight from Italy.

Normally, for 14 days, I would recommend sticking to Venice, Rome and Florence. However, I think you can swing Cinque Terra.

However, Cinque Terra is out of the way. There is a great train that runs from Venice to Florence and Rome. I would fly into northern Italy, Milan or Venice and end up in Rome.

In Italy the train is your best choice, since distances are not huge.

I like Chani's plan. Trying to do Paris too would mean not having enough time to really enjoy 5 locations so I'd save it for the next trip. 4 nights is really the minimum one should allow for Rome - even without a day trip to Naples - and I'd say the same for Paris. It would be most efficient to confine your 14 days to Italy and get around by train.

Time of year could make a difference, though. If you are planning this trip to occur between November and April, I'd cut the Cinque Terre: a lot will be closed for the winter. Venice could also be uncomfortably wet and chilly in winter.

Your interests could make a difference as well. Rome and Florence are heavy on art, architecture, archeological sites (Rome), history and archeological sites (Rome). Landscapes? Not so much but the same applies to Paris.
