Trip suggestions for Fall 2015

My wife and I are planning our second trip to Italy. Our first trip was wonderful using many of Rick Steves' suggestions and information. We spent 3 days in Rome, two days visiting towns where my wife's family was from(loved Gaeta in the Lazio region) and three days in Positano and the Amalfi region We want to spend time in Rome again and want to send time in Tuscany taking in the small hill towns to take in the people, food and of course the great wine of the region. I am planning on a total of 10 to 12 days with 3 days in Rome either in the beginning or the end of the trip.
I am curious for any suggestions on itineraries considering that we would like to enjoy Tuscany region and we do not necessarily want to spend large amounts of time in museums? Any help would be great...Thanks!

So many hill towns to choose from! If you have a car, you can vidit a couple of towns in a day, although I usually take more time (and use public transportation).

Cortona, Todi, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena, Lucca, Arezzo, San Gimignano, are some of my favorites. Monteriggioni is a small walled town very near Siena.

If you want to venture into Umbria, Assisi, Spello, Perugia, Montefalco, Gubbio.

If you have time while you are in Rome, Orvieto, Castel Gandolfo, Frascati, Tivoli.
