Trip Review - Florence and Venice

Florence
We were in Florence for only 1 night, we stayed at Albergo Firenze, which was a fine hotel in a good location (right near the duomo). We had dinner at Il Latini...it was a very touristy place to eat, our most touristy dinner of the trip. The food was so, so. The wine was unlimited, you are seated with other people and eat family style. The company was fun, but the place was very overpriced I thought for the value of the food.

Venice
We stayed at Ponto Chiodo, which is a guest house. It was the nicest accommodations we had for the trip. We had a lagoon view, comfortable room and breakfast was included and was served in the private garden.
We ate dinner at Il Bacco in the Jewish Ghetto neighborhood. The food was good, it was a local place, very quiet and nice neighborhood. We also ate at Vino di Gigio. This was spectacular.

If anyone needs more info, let me know!

I just want to add that we had a fabulous time. We rented a car for the Tuscany portion of the trip and had no problems (a GPS was very very helpful though!). We had no problems with the train and loved just carrying backpacks. Traveling light was the way to go.

Julia thanks for posting ,, it is always nice to hear about other peoples trips and experiences.
Do you mind telling us around how much your guest house cost in Venice, sounds like a Lagoon View might be very expensive?

Hi,
It cost 140 euro per night. This was the most expensive of our accommodations, but by far the nicest.

Sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing. What was the Ghetto like? Unfortunately this one was area we couldn't visit while in Venice.

I'm glad you had a great trip! 140 euro is a good price for Venice! I bet it cost even more in the summer. Nice to travel in the fall! I'll be there in two weeks!!!

Yes 140 was a good price. We tried to pick more budget hotels in good locations.

The Ghetto was nice, we only went there at night and it was very quiet, the moon was shining off the canals, seemed to be a lot of locals.
