Is it too late to plan a trip to Italy in 3/10 for 6/10? I am traveling during high season; traveling with a teacher. Any tips on lodging? I am using Kayak to find flights; I can also tag on lodging for discounts. I am a moderate spender.

It's never too late. We frequently (almost always?)head to the airport with no idea of where we're going when we land. Whole countries get left off or added on in flight.
Venere.com will help you find places to stay in Italy. We figure a guest rating of about 7.5 or higher with a good-sized number of reviewers seldom leads us astray.

I am not a big fan of Kayak. I frequently find better fares searching elsewhere. My strategy is to use multiple websites including directly at all the airline's websites. You should also consider flying on an off day, tuesday or wednesday, airfare can be as much as $200 cheaper if you fly on an off day. Finally, it is the worst kept secret in the industry that travel sites will increase rates for hotel and airfare on you after you repeatedly check the same search. So if you notice a small change in the price of a hotel or a flight try deleting your cookies on your internet browser and check again. Sometime, and especially with hotel prices, the price will go back down.
