Trip breakdown: What do you think of these time amounts in each spot?

I've decided on an itinerary of Venice, Rome and Sorrento for a two-week trip with my older mother this May. Here's the breakdown of time I'm considering: Venice - 3 nights (I stayed 2 last year, and think a third will be good for my mother and our pace). Rome - 4 nights (My mother wants to see the Vatican and possibly another museum. She doesn't think she can handle doing the ruins, but I've planned for enough time if she changes her mind ... which I think she will.) Sorrento - 5 nights (I've chosen more time here as three nights last year was far too little. I'd like time to relax, possibly do Pompeii and Capri, and maybe even an Amalfi Coast jaunt.) Thoughts on division of time? Thank you!

I think it sounds good. You have enough time in Venice & Rome, with more time in a more relaxing place.

Looks good to me. You're very smart in not trying to cram too much in.

Renee, The times you've listed look very reasonable. While the travel times between cities will reduce the actual "touring time" in each location, there's still lots of time for sightseeing. As you're travelling with your Mother, you'll probably have to "pace yourselves" with the touring, especially in Rome. I'm likely in the same "age range" and I tend to tour at a more relaxed pace now. Happy travels!

For another museum in Rome, I recommend the Borghese Gallery. You'll need to reserve in advance (your hotel can help with this).

Thank you, Ruth! I am getting very excited. Now to plug in some plans! Zoe, the Borghese is on my list ... thanks for your suggestion. I missed it last time and would love to see it this time.

How are you traveling from Rome to Sorrento? We took the train from Rome to Naples, then the Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento. It was somewhat difficult carrying our luggage down the steps from the main Naples train station to the Circumvesuviana station.

Hi Bob, I haven't yet planned how we're traveling in between cities, but I was thinking I'd do the same thing I did last year, which was as you described from Naples to Sorrento. I do remember those stairs! Luckily, my husband and I only had carry-on bags, and I'm going to help my mom pack lightly, too. But, perhaps I'll have to carry both bags. Thanks for reminding me to think of these things!
