We will be spending a couple of days in Trieste in October. Any recommendations for must sees? Area to stay in that is walkable? I’m just starting to plan!
Not much discussion of Trieste here. What I did is to use YouTube and search "things to do in Trieste."
We are stopping there also on our trip. We found 2 castles there and a cave we want to check out. From my list:
Castle 1:
V.le Miramare, 34151 Trieste TS, Italy
Castle 2:
P.za della Cattedrale, 3, 34131 Trieste TS, Italy
Cave:
Borgo Grotta Gigante, 42 / A, 34010 Sgonico TS, Italy
(says not open on Monday)
We traveled from Ljubljana to Trieste in March 2023 on Go-Opti, which dropped us off at the main train station, and stayed at Doubletree by Hilton Trieste. The hotel was ~15-20 min walk from the station. We enjoyed walking around the waterfront as well as seeing the Trieste Cathedral (Basilica cattedrale di San Giusto Martire), the Castle of San Giusto and the Roman ruins. There are great views of the city from the castle. Enjoy your trip!
Maybe not to everyone’s taste, but we found our visit to Risiera di San Sabba—a Nazi concentration camp—very interesting. https://risierasansabba.it/san-sabba-rice-mill-national-monument-and-museum/
