Trieste - best area for seeing cultural attractions, and hotel recommendations

My wife and I are visiting there in mid September. We’re interested in the city’s culture, art museums, historic sites, architecture and a landmark church or two. And a nice dinner. NOT interested in the beaches beyond just people watching or an after dinner stroll. We’ll have 2 nights and 1.5 days and no car to get around.

What area of the city should we stay and can you recommend a very good mid-priced hotel under $250/night or Airbnb? And a dinner restaurant?

Thanks for your help!

Trieste is one of my favorite places to visit!

I have stayed twice at L'Albero Nascosto. For me, the location is perfect on a quiet street and a short walk to the seafront.

Very nearby is Osteria Marise with a nice atmosphere and very good food. Since it's a small place, I'd make a reservation.

For coffee or a light lunch, Antico Caffe San Marco is very atmospheric.

A trip on the ferry to Miramare Castle is very nice.

Enjoy the city! Check Google maps for restaurants and reviews. There are many good ones.
