Hello Travelers -
My wife and I are planning to arrive and spend he evening in Trieste 8/16. We arrive in a rental car car from the Julian Alps in Slovenia. The next morning we drive to Piran to meet some friends who are docking for the day there on a cruise ship. So it is a short visit!
Arrival expected to be about 1-2:00pm. Wed.
Any thoughts on what to do on a most likely hot day?
Place(s) to spend the evening, dinner and/or accommodation (part of the city)?

Along the Canal Grande you'll find a long row of al fresco restaurants. Good place to spend a summer evening.

Do you recommend staying along the grand canal for hotel also? Are there other areas of the city I should look at?

We were in Trieste many years ago. My main memory is that there were wonderful apertivo bars on the edges. We stayed at the James Joyce Hotel which was great, but I’d check with them about parking. It may be in a ZTL.

Just be aware that “al fresco” more commonly means “in jail”.

Also, we had great gelato in Trieste. And it was relatively inexpensive.
