Tips to get in Capri’s Blue Gratto?

We’re about to get on a mid-afternoon boat to Capri. Time will be short to see the Blue Gratto. Are there any short cuts or ability to pay for a private guide on the spot?

No idea but personally, if there's anything on Capri I'd define as a tourist trap, it would be this one: a whole lot of $$ for a very few minutes inside the thing. Lots of complaints about the boatmen hassling customers for tips. Strongly suggest you read through reviews before committing:

We skipped it entirely during our 2 days on the island and didn't feel as we'd missed a thing: better things to do.

I agree with Kathy. Get off the beaten track and leave the water front away from the Blue Grotto to get a real feel for Capri. Also, know that weather and sea conditions are in charge here....

Excellent advice. We went, had a cafe latte, did some people watching, picked up a beach blanket, and now heading back on the last boat to Positano for dinner. Don’t feel we missed a thing by avoiding the Blue Gratto madness.

30 years ago after the boats finished for the day we dove in the ocean and swam into the grotto
Once inside and you look back at the hole the water glowed Pretty amazing has a white sandy bottom
Just imagine Caribbean water lit up in a cave . That’s it.
The neat part historically is that Tiberius and many romans I’m sure went inside.

Can’t imagine how crazy it is now.
Positano is my favorite.

Is the Roman ruins of villa open below the Duomo in Positano ? That would be cool.
