Yep, we made Treviso our base when we went to Venice.

The only reason that we did was because our traveling companions had friends there. While we explored Venice on day trips (easy train access) our friends went wine tasing in the local areas.

The old part of town is neat. You can go out and eat at some of the restaurants that line the canals that meander thru town.

I really don't think that I would make it a day trip. Padova would be more interesting.

Thanks for the information. We are staying in Venice for two nights but we are flying out of Verona two days later and we are trying to find something different and unique to do. We thought a different city off the beaten path would be good. Any thoughts.

We're going to stay in Venice for 4 nights at the end of Sept. As this is our 2nd time in Venice, we had the same idea to try to find other out of the way places to see. So far, we plan to take a day trip to Trieste and a day trip combining Treviso and Belluno near the Dolomites. We'll post our experiences on the Grafitti Wall when we get back. Happy Travels!!
