I read that they have emptied the Trevi fountain to do some maintenance. Has anyone heard how long this is to take? It sounded like it could be awhile. I'm hoping it will be up and running when we arrive next month! Thanks for any news you may have heard.

ANSA reports "There is no indication as to how long the restoration process will take, but given that this is Italy, visitors can plan on seeing scaffolding and construction workers there for quite awhile."
Going in two weeks, I hope it is as beautiful as the pictures show!
If Trevi is empty... be SURE to go to Piazza Navona. My wife and I make a bee line for there most evenings. Beautiful fountains, painters and street performers. About 15+ minute walk to Trevi. Campo dei Fiori is failry close as well. Nice in the morning, for produce etc, then at night dining around the square and street performers.
p.s. In central Rome we just hoof it. And we are early 60's. Start doing some walks now, you will be glad you did.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to add the sites you mentioned. I just saw a picture of Trevi empty and guys cleaning it. Still having hope they fill it back up before October!
A facebook friend just posted a pic of trevi and the water was flowing...he just arrived a few days ago...
Interesting there are conflicting messages. Rick had the story on his news and events a few weeks ago. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what it's like when we get there! Thanks for everybody's input.

They are not really conflicting. The first reply was from RS "European Headlines" on this website. Apparently a quick cleaning and damage assessment was made and it is back in business, but major repairs are needed because pieces of the facade are falling out. So we can expect the scaffolding to be going up soon, even if they keep the water going in the fountain or not.
Got back from Rome last night. Trevi fountain is cleaned and flowing. One part of the facade of the building behind it is covered with scaffolding and screening because of ongoing work on it. But it really does not detract from the fountain, especially if you are on the other side from the bit being worked on.
Hi Jacque, Here's my Flickr web address photos of the Trevi Fountain. Enjoy!
