Hello everyone- we will be in staying in Trento for four nights and the arrival day will be spent settling in and seeing the airplane museum. The second day going to Bolzano, doing lift and museum. If we get an early start, we will continue to Merano for a few hours. Another day, maybe taking a bus to Riva del Garda for the day. Third day- Treviso or another town. We enjoy museums and hiking and although this is a very full visit, we will sleep/rest when we get home. The problems is always the same, so many beautiful towns, so little time. Is this itinerary doable with public transportation? We are definitely not renting a car this time. Thanks for your input!
Public transport - Yes. Schedules, have fun searching through the website. It appears you will need to take a train to Bolzano but there are lots of bus routes.

There is a very nice cable car from near the Trento train station that takes you high up above the city for nice views and hikes. Also, there is a direct train to Bassano del Grappa that goes through the mountains, rather than the main line trains in the valley. I'd take that rather than Treviso. Trento has a nice central piazza with painted facades ala Austria. And site of the Council of Trent, the Buonconsiglio in Italian.
Make dinner reservations at the Antica Trattoria due Mori, one of our top five in Italy.
Download the Visit Trentino app. You can travel all over Trento area for free with the Trentino visitors card. The app can help you with scheduling. The card also includes lifts and cable cars to the peaks. Our hotel took care of getting the card for us so check with your host for more Info. It’s a really nifty app and card.
Thank you everyone!
