I have a question for anyone familiar with the Italian train system. We are going to Italy from Dec 24th until Jan 3rd this winter. I have been looking to see when I can book the train tickets as we have a pretty tight schedule and everything I search for this timeframe comes up as no solution found. I think that this is because the timetable has not been released as of yet. Does anyone have an idea of how to find the new timetable or find out when it is available? Or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.
First, you can only book up to 60 days in advance for domestic routes on the Trenitalia site. That's why you're getting the "no solution found" message. Second, new timetables for all of Europe will take effect in early December. Because of that, even if you wait until early November to book, entering a late December travel date may result in the same message--until the Trenitalia site is updated. However, the train times are not likely to change by more than a few minutes, if at all, so you can get a pretty accurate idea of your choices by entering any date between now and the end of November.
Thanks for the information. I'll be sure to check on buying our must have tickets again at the end of the month wehn I'm in the 60 day window.
