Trenitalia -which tariff?

This has probably been asked many times, but now that I need to know, I am confused. We will be taking the train from Rome to Naples. When asked which rate- do we choose Standard, Flex, etc, or which one? We would like to go on the high speed train. Is there really not much difference in first and second class? We will have our luggage(small roll-ons) Thanks

Hi Janie. I'm sure others with more knowledge will jump in here. Re the tarrif people have recommended the Amica fare. We used that when we booked our train travel on trenitalia. As long as you know the day you wish to travel, the Amica fare offers a 20% discount. Like you we will have small roll ons and we booked all our trips 2nd class. On the highspeed trains there is plenty of room above the seat for small bags. From what I've been told, the biggest difference between 1st and 2nd class is a slightly larger seat and bar/beverage service in your cabin in 1st class. Didn't seem worth it to us. Hope this helps.

The flex rate is more expensive than the standard rate as it gives you better options should there be train schedule changes, etc. The Amica fare provides a 20% discount. The Amica fare is limited based on day, train class and train category. Amica fares must be purchased no later than the day before travel. 1st class only gets you more arm and leg room. It's really not worth the extra money. 2nd class has plenty of space. Get the Amica fare if you can.

The Rome to Naples journey takes 1.5hrs-2.5hrs. depending on the run. A few are non-stop. Note that ICPlus trains are less expensive that the ES or AV trains. You can see all of this on www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html
