Trenitalia website troubles

My husband and I are trying to book a train trip from Riomaggiore to Sora on May 26th on Trenitalia but can't get the website to work. We have both registered and gotten passwords but continue to get the same "generic error" message when we try to log in to buy our tickets - we have been trying for 24 hours without success! Is this common?? Does anyone have any tips to booking our tickets? Thank you!

Emily, try clearing your browser and starting over. I had the same problem a few weeks ago - their website is a little squirrely!

I just tried it and got a few options from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours, three train changes and around 40 Euros (using the MINI fare option). Is it possible that you got your dates reversed? In Europe it's Day-Month-Year. Safest to click on the little calendar icon and choose your date that way. Also remember to choose your hour of departure. Choosing "8" will not guarantee an 8AM departure, but choosing "18" will guarantee some pretty unappealing choices.

I will try clearing the browser and giving it another go...thank you.
Yes, I have the date correct - I was able to get the search to go through without a problem and found the itinerary but then when I try to log in to purchase the tickets it gives me a message that says "generic error". Grrr....I was tempted to call them instead but was worried that I might end up with something crazy because of the language issues...

I managed to buy tickets the other night by choosing NOT to log in - you still get a reservation number and an e-mail with the ticket information, so I don't think it's a huge deal.

I just logged on an attempted to buy a ticket from Riomaggiore to Sora. It's a 7hr-9hr train journey with at least 3 train changes. I was easily able to get to the point were I could purchase a ticket for June 7. I did successfully purchase a couple of tickets a week ago. Unfortunately, the Trenitalia website is a bit difficult to navigate. If you need help, just PM me. I have Go-To-Meeting on my laptop and and can invite you to join a meeting with me online and I can watch you go through the process from my screen. I may be in meetings or other activities but I'll be glad t assist.

Unless you think the trains will be booked solid - then just buy the tickets when you get there. Allow time to go through the ticket booth line as the machines are chip & pin - require a credit card with a pin number.

@karen, They must have uppdated the ticket Kiosks since last fall, as I was able to use my magnetic stripe credit card at Roma Termini (and a few other stations). Which stations did you use?
