I have used Trenitalia on several previous trips to Italy but I am interested if anyone has used ITALO and their thoughts on the two companies
I have not yet been on the new Italo trains but postings on this website indicate that they are new, very fast and wonderful. Fares are similar. Advance discounts are similar. In Rome, the Italo train runs into and out of the Roma-Tiburtina station and not the Roma-Termini station. Not a big deal. In Milano, the Italo train runs into and out of a different train station as well and not Milano-Centrale.
I've used both several times and think they are both great. The Italo trains are very nice inside and very quiet. Their price is competitive with trenitalia so I usually base my choice on who has the better deal for my travel needs. I've not had any issues with Italo and won't hesitate to use them in the future.

We used Italo last September from Venice to Florence. Italo and Trenitalia use the same stations in those cities, and the time enroute is exactly the same for the two carriers. But we liked Italo's private waiting room in the Venice station, and the service and amenities in the mid-level "Prima" class were excellent.
We used both Trenitalia and Italo last September and loved Italo. We used Italo go travel from Naples to Rome. As someone else said, the Italo rates are comparable to Trenitalia's but the Italo trains are much nicer. They are newer, more quiet and more comfortable. The restroom on the Italo train was also spotless whereas one of the restrooms on one of our Trenitalia rides was so disgusting that my husband and I decided to "hold it" until our destination! If the Italo stations and times are convenient for you, I'd opt for Italo. Have a great trip!
I traveled on both services last October, in the lowest class of service in each case, and found them quite similar. Trenitalia has more departure frequency and more destinations. Both have advance-purchase discounts if you're ready to lock in dates and times. Italo serves different stations in some cities, which may or may not be a more convenient location for you. Italo's customer service was good - e.g. sending a staff person around the boarding area in Torino to make sure we were standing in the best spot to board our reserved car. The info on which part of the track to stand/board was not permanently posted, as it may be in some areas, but came up on video screens shortly before departure.
