I will be traveling from Venice to Siena in May by train. The email delivery option on Trenitalia web site was disabled when I tried to buy the tickets. I could only use self-service option, which means i will need to retrieve my tickets from a station ticket box before my trip. Any advice or experinece with self -service reservation?

there is no need to buy your tickets in advance since there is about a train an hour on this route. Buy your tix when you are in Venice.
If you are successful in purchasing this ticket, you should receive an email confirming the purchase with a PNR booking code. You enter this code along with the credit card you used to purchase the ticket into the self-service kiosk in the station. Venice has several of these kiosks.
