Trenitalia tickets - wrong dates?..do I need paper copies?

two questions:
on their app - one of my Trenitalia reservations shows 30 June 22 as the journey date when looking at the summary screen, then after clicking on ticket w/QR code it shows 1 July 22 as journey date (the correct date) but when added to apple wallet it again shows the incorrect date of 30 June 22 again....anyone seen this? my other two reservations (different itineraries) all have the correct journey dates in all the right places
I've sent them a message but no response yet

also - do you print out the paper copies of the PDF they email you or just use electronic (apple wallet, etc?)

Interesting... I buy 100+ Trenitalia tickets each year - through their website - and have never seen that before. Best of luck reaching out to them.

As far as printing copies, it really comes down to your comfort level. I usually just show them my phone. Most locals don't print their tickets... but I once had a client who had their phone DIE... and swore they'd always print out their train reservations in the future. So, whatever works for you.

Could be a time zone issue with a 6 to 9 hour difference between Italy and the various North American time zones. July 1 in Italy shares many hours with June 30 in the US.

Print the ticket and see if it is correct. FWIW I always print tickets for fera my phone won't work when I need it to on the train.

I printed tickets for our trip last month. While I have the apps on my phone, I can't always be certain that I'm going to be able to access the sites. If you are confident of your service, go for it. We tend to do a "tech detox" on our trips and access our phone sparingly. Do what you feel comfortable with. However, if the printed tickets give the info you need, go with that.

I have the same issue.

  • The My Journeys screen in the App shows 09 September
  • The QR Code screen shows 10 September (correct date)
  • Paper printout show 10/09/2022 (proper date European style)
  • Apple Wallet shows 9/10/22 (proper date U.S. style)

argh!

Keep us posted if you discover any details.

Keith - I will...I have put in a request for them to contact me in their online form (trying to avoid the expense of calling for now)
What's strange is that I booked all the trips the same morning and the trips vary as to which screens show the correct/incorrect dates....the good news is the correct date for each trip is in the confirmation email so I probably will just have paper copies of everything...so much for the ease of apple wallet lol

Any update on this? I am having the same issue with the journey date reading the day before my ticket date. I figure it has something to do with technology/time zone issues and as my ticket with QR code shows the right date it's probably fine but wanted to see if trenitalia got back with you. Thanks!

This is a glitch in the app. "Journey date" in app is the day before, but actual ticket with QR code shows correct day. I printed off ticket just to be sure, but I print off a copy of everything anyway.

I’m another person who feels more comfortable with a printed QR code, plus I write the departure time and train number in larger numbers at the bottom of the ticket, so I don’t need to pull out my reading glasses at the station.

I did buy a couple of tickets in June on-line because of a train strike and just showed my phone for those two.

The problem is with the time zones. You will see it correctly on the app once you see in Italy. Also if you allow it to be added to your calendar it will be messed up once you are in Italy (I got all of my reminders when I had already taken the journey). Took four fast trains in the last three weeks, and all had the wrong date back home on the app, correct on PDF tickets. Date corrected when I came to the correct time zones.

If you are not going to print the ticket, I suggest saving your tickets in an accessible folder such as Google Drive or Dropbox. Even taking screen shots and placing them in photo folders will work. Final resort: Send them to yourself in email. Create a system of naming the subject line so they are easy to find.
