Trenitalia tickets - did it work?

I'm such a rookie at all this..... Trying to order my first Italy train tickets. I called my credit card company in advance. Everything seemed fine, chose train, entered names and CC info, hit confirm. Next screen is blank white screen with an address of something visa.com. No text, no hourglass, nothing. Does this mean it went through? Didn't go through? Nothing by email yet. Its been about 20 minutes, Is this typical? I did not register as a user.

Thank you!

amosk,

The Trenitalia website is known for not being the most "user friendly". I don't know whether your purchase went through or not, but I'd recommend using www.captaintrain.com in future as it's easier to use. They also sell tickets for Italo.

If you had registered as a user you could now back into your account and view all of your reservations. Now, you don't know although it sounds as if it failed. Just register. Use one of your Italian hotel's address as your home address.

my guess is the verified-by-visa window tried to open up for you to confirm the purchase but your browser mangled or blocked it. Call your credit card company tomorrow and see if the charge went thru, probably didn't.

I second the suggestion to use captaintrain

I have successfully used Trenitalia's site for years, but just this morning it failed me miserably and when I turned to CaptainTrain, I was able to book the seats I wanted at the fare I wanted. Use CaptainTrain. If you did not get an email from Trenitalia, chances are very good the transaction failed and you were not charged.

Thank you. I like the ease of Captain Train but it shows only the base price of 54E per person - 162E total for our 3. Trenitalia is offering economy where all 3 tickets are 87E. That price difference males a difference to me.

Laurel, how were you able to book your seats. I was just on captaintrain just awhile ago and was unable to book my own seats, they were booked for me and so was the fare, could not change that either.

Honestly, I don't know what happened. Last night's Trenitalia did not go through. this morning I looked at Captain Train again, still showing 54E for each ticket - the base price, no economy or super economy. I really was having a difficult time paying 162 instead of the 87 shown on Trenitalia so I tried again on Trenitalia. Same thing happened as last night, white screen, no email, called CC again, no charge attempt. In frustration, I went back to Captain Train and that time it came up with 3 tickets - 2 super economy and 1 economy price - for 67E total. I don't know why but I bought them! I have double checked my Captain Train email MANY times - looking at the date, time, train, number of passengers (did I forget a kid??!) - and it seems correct.

Who knows, but I'm happy to save those euros for the next train leg!

I may be getting this wrong but I remember that children under 14 are half price on trenitalia (on the freccia trains, under 12 in the regionale) so maybe that explains the pricing change, you didn't have the ages in before? Or maybe the company changed to Italo.
