Trenitalia Strike - Florence to Pisa

Lurker here. According to the summer in italy site (thank you thank you) a trenitalia personnel strike is scheduled for October 21. Of course that is the day I have my ticket to climb the leaning tower. I was planning to take the train but I guess they will not be running now. Anyone know of another way to get there without hiring a driver/tour group? Or will the trains still be running?

By Italian law, the trains do not completely shut down during a strike. They've worked this out with the unions over the years. You can see a link right on the main page of the www.trenitalia.com website that explains what goes on during the strikes. It's in the bottom of the mustard-colored section on their main page. On the strike explanation page, click on th link that says "See Italian version for details on guaranteed trains". Cick on Toscana and see the guaranteed runs out of Tuscany. To be sure, there are fewer runs but if you plan well, you can easily get one. One more thing. Most train runs to Pisa from Florence are Reginale trains. No seat reservations permitted. It's like a bus. You get on and find a seat. If no seat, you can stand. Finally, there is a Terravision bus from the Florence train station to the Pisa airport. The Pisa airport is 5 minutes from the main Pisa train station. A taxi ride to the tower could work here. http://www.terravision.eu/pisa_price_timetable.html

Thank you! That is great about the bus being so close and being able to easily get there. I'll try searching the trenitala site for the exact trains. For the bus....am I better off making a reservation ahead of time or just showing up?
