I've been trying for 3 days to book a train ticket. I keep receiving this error message: "Attention! We are sorry, an error occurred. Try again later." This is before I even reach the payment section. I've tried via the app, the mobile site on my iPad, and using my work laptop. Any ideas?
Wait, try a different browser or browse the site in private mode.
Are you trying to get tickets from/to La Spezia in May, by any chance?
Have you registered on the website?
How far out are you trying to purchase your ticket? Could that be impacting the process?
What -- exactly -- are you trying to do? Dates and times?? You could be too early.
Everyone, thanks for your input.
@Dario - I did try a different browser but have not tried private mode. Will do that now. I am trying to go to Monterosso in early June. It shows plenty of availability.
@Lola - Yes, I am registered on the site. And I've tried it as both a guest and registered user just in case.
@Carol and @Frank - I may be too early. I signed up for notifications for when they opened booking and was reacting to that. I might attempt an earlier booking to see if that breaks the problem. If so, then I'll know to wait.
I am trying to go to Monterosso
From where? Did you pick a route involving an IC train? If you are putting a date before June 11 the problem is not about "when", but "what": they may be adding more IC trains to/from Monterosso (or La Spezia).
Amy- Have you checked the website Rome to Rio to see the exact trains you will need to be booking and train stations you will be using? To Get to Monterosso you will need to change trains, but without knowing where your coming from I can't tell you where but we came from Rome and changed trains in La Spezia. Also make sure that your time of travel is from 00:00 to get all the solutions.
I would not use Rome2Rio for this sort of question. If you know you'll be taking a train, the trenitalia website is best (or Italotreno if traveling between two major cities).
I was having the same issue late last week for a ticket purchase in May from Roma Termini to Chiusi in May. I finally registered myself on the site and today was successful in purchasing my tickets!
@ Dario - Coming from Florence, stop in Pisa June 5. There is an IC train involved.
You are trying too far ahead. I tried June 5, using the website in Italian in case that was the problem, and got the same message. Basically, “try again later”. Using 5 April I got right to the payment page with no issues.
Note that the route through Pisa involves a Regionale and/or a Regionale Veloce train. No IC train on the route I picked.
There is an IC train involved.
I assume you are trying to book one of the 5 direct IC trains between Pisa Centrale and Monterosso. They all seems bookable now. I picked Amazon as mean of payment and I was transferred to my account page on Amazon without any error message. Of course I didn't click "Buy". Keep in mind that Webmasters work during the night, Italian time and now it's only 22:00 here.
Try again. If it doesn't work, You could buy now only the tickets for the Florence SMN-Pisa leg. Another option would be to depart from Florence CdM station and take the direct Freccia to La Spezia, it's bookable now and it offers discounted tickets.
Or, if you really want to stop in Pisa and then take a direct train to Monterosso, you can simply wait. First because it's January, second because the 5th of June is a Monday. The summer crowds to the Cinque Terre do not get tickets 5 months in advance and anyway the crowds come from Milan during the week-end, not from Florence/Pisa on a Monday. Tuscans flock to their seaside villages when it's hot and schools are still open.
