Trenitalia Reserved Tickets Frecciarossa

I have confirmed tickets reserved on this train, but I have never received an e-mail confirmation from Trenitalia. I do have my confirmation numbers from the website. I am a bit confused: do I need to print out a 'ticket' once I get to Rome Termini Station or does my confirmation number work like a ticket?

I have been to their website and requested the re-send the e-mail, but I have never received anything (I double check my spam folder). I'm assuming the e-mail will have a confirmation with a bar-code like one gets for an airline e-ticket.

If I never receive an e-mail, will my confirmation number work for boarding train? Thank you!

I'm looking at a similar ticket we'll be using in a couple of days. We did get an email ticket. There is no bar code, just ticket number (PRN) in large bold letters. It says "you are traveling on an e Ticket, no paper ticket is needed prior to boarding the train. You will simply provide the ticket number. (PNR) above To the Conductor for validation. Please note your train car (carriage) and seat number(s) below...

So if you have the number, you are halfway there. You still need to have your seat assignment. So if you don't have that, you definitely need to see Trenitalia at the station. If you have the number and seats, you are good to go. They will come around the train car to verify that everyone has a réservation and is in the correct seat. No barcode scan, though.

Do you not have to validate your ticket before you get on the train when you have a reserved seat on the ticket? I have seen many times on the forum that one must validate or there will be a big fine. We are going Florence to Venice and have a "ticket" (just a page they sent us via email) with what looks like a barcode on it.

Thank you, Bets.

I do NOT have a PNR number, which concerns me. I just have a confirmation 'retrieval' number which allowed me to find my reservation on their website and request another e-mail, which has not arrived. Is there a lag time perhaps? Might they be waiting to e-mail until funds are received? I purchased 4 days ago.

@dwarren:
It is my understanding that for the Frecciarossa type trains, the e-ticket is all that is needed because the ticket is good for that one date/time/journey. If you miss your train, you must buy another ticket to ride.

However, on the Regionale trains, a ticket is good for a number of days, therefor you must validate your ticket on the day you travel.

Since I have never traveled these trains before, I am only regurgitating what I have read. .................

That's correct. You validate paper tickets, but not e tickets, even if you've printed them on your computer. My experience is limited too, but I've had a variety of tickets recently.

The railway administration is concerned that you could ride twice on a single ticket; as a Frecciarossa ticket is valid only for a specific day and time, like an airplane ticket, there is no need to validate it. Regional tickets that are issued without a timeframe need to be validated and expire a few hours after the validation.

You need the following infos to board a Frecciarossa train: day of travel, number of train, number of car, number of seat, PNR code. There is no actual need to print out this info - for example it can be sent as a SMS to a cellular phone or as an email to your smartphone.

As long you can show the conductor a PNR and the conductor can check on his/her terminal that the place you are occupying is corresponding to the PNR you showed, you are considered as having a valid ticket. - If you switch seats remember to let the conductor know your original seat; sometimes - rarely - also the name of the traveller is checked. Some tickets have an extra code, named CP, needed for changing the reservation (if possible).

Denise,

I had a huge problem with their website yesterday. Finally got my tickets, but no email confirmation, so I went into their website and put in my ret code and name and it came up instanly with a print out ticket that has all my the ticket info you need, date, time, from, to trin station, arrival date & time and number of passengers plus the PNR letters and numbers with total amount paid.
If you need more exact info let me know.

Good luck...

I've been surfing numerous forums on the web. Found a little thread somewhere that said Trenitalia is unable to send e-mails to a '.net' e-mail address. BINGO!
I replaced my '.net' e-mail address with a '.com' one. I now have that precious PNR number.

♪♪ I've got a ticket to ride...♪ Thank you to everyone who assisted.

I purchased tickets Florence-Venice-Florence, selected my seats, and received an email e-ticket instantly. It is my understanding that I just need to board and show the train staff the eticket when asked.

I will say the Trenitalia site is quite fickle. Aside from sometimes routing you back to the home screen, or taking you so far and freezing up, I was finally able to purchase on August 6 2014 for October 2014 travel and found the super econo fares for 19euro each way!!!! So I committed to the dates on my schedule to get these great, low fares. I went back into the booking routine and low and behold, it would let me select the econo (for 2 people) for the leg to Venice, and though the econo fares were showing in the selection screen as "from ... (amount)", each time I selected the super econo (not showing as sold out or limited seats) it said not enough available, even the next 2 price tiers up were coming back as not enough available, except first class -- and ridiculously priced.

Having just checked earlier that day and in the few days prior and seeing the low econo fares still available, I thought that really strange but tried the round trip again. I got the cheap seats to Venice, but to my amazement, the site came back saying that now there was nothing available for the date/time I wanted to return, not even the first class, nor was the one-hour before I wanted to leave available!! So, my cynical self thought, they must be tracking me. I cleared all browsing and cookies and reopened two Trenitalia screens, purchasing the one-way to Venice, and a one-way back to Florence -- both legs for the super econo fare, AND the date and AND time I wanted and had previously checked!! If you experience this same thing, try clearing all your cookies/browsing, as I do believe they track, and the system might not give you the best fares -- just my skepticism, but it was very odd.
