I'm trying to book a train from Venezia to Firenze on 16/5/2012 on Trenitalia, but only next-day options, 17/5/2012, are available. Am I doing something incorrectly; what am I missing?
I found quite a few trains at a variety of prices, once I found the correct way to enter stations.
Try Venezia S. Lucia for Venice and Firenze for Florence. Looks like the express trains run about every hour. Also make sure you enter the time to depart. The default is the current time. Lee
I think Lee hit it but did not explain fully. If you do not enter a time, it will default to local time, in Italy. That may be the middle of the night when no trains are running, so it will show the next day.
Tracy, the Trenitalia website has recently "updated." So this, updated posting on Booking on the Trenitalia Website may give you some assistance. It's actually far easier than it used to be!
On the trenitalia website two days ago I successfully booked a train from Venice to Florence for travel in late April. So it is possible. As someone else mentioned, you must use the italian spelling of the cities and you must know the stations that you will use. The improved website is easier to use, but still has some problems. I had just finished booking a trip from Pisa to La Spezia and was still on the PayPal page when I got a message that an error had happened and that the money would be refunded. I completed another booking for the same trip. I then received a confirmation emails for both bookings, so I now have 2 different seats booked. I have e-mailed trenitalia re the mistake but have not yet heard back. Good Luck.
I suggest that you may not have paid attention to the time. If you permitted a late time such as 22:00 or similar, the webiste will post the next day's runs. When searching on any train website, I usually enter 5:00am or similar. All of the early runs will show. If I want later, I can select "later".
I appreciate all of the feedback. I was able to outlast all of the website glitches and use the correct time as suggested to book my ticket.
