trying to book train tickets from rome to florence-all goes well until until the end when I get "Dear customer, due to some malfunction of the banking system the transaction was not successfully completed. No charges made. Please try again later." is it trenitalia or me????

Who knows? Did you advise your card issuer to expect an charge from Europe? Call you card issuer and see if the charge was presented. If so, why rejected? If not presented, then it is problem with Trenitalia. The verified VISA cards work better so you might have your card verified.

The credit card transaction will be taking place in Italy. Have you alerted your credit card company about that? They might be declining the transaction.

I purchased several tickets last week on the Trenitalia website utlizing the Paypal option and it worked every time. I encountered no problems. I am registered on their site also. Hopefully this helps.

I've made several purchases in the last week, and had no problem. I used an AMEX card, so I don't know if that made a difference. I also agree about letting your card company know about the charge in advance so they can flag the account - anticipating the Europe charge rather than seeing something that may seem out of the ordinary. Especially if a bank card.

Call your credit card company. They could very well be blocking this transaction due to "suspicious activity". They will do this regardless of your previous success buying stuff.

No. www.trenitalia.com is the official railway website. Not familiar with Italia Rail, but from their website it's looks to be similar to Rail Europe.

Do you have a middle name or initial on your creidt card? I used to have problems all the time, but haven't had any since I dropped the middle initial from my card (now just first and last name). Used it last week to buy a ticket on the Trenitalia website and completed the purchase without a hitch. BTW, it was my credit card company that suggested the change.

yes thanks to all I contacted my credit card to allow the purchase however NOW I have trouble with the web site-OMG------they also have me paying with POSTEMOBILE and I have no idea what to do----trying to rebook but the website is kicking me out---after two days I keep trying

Annette, just purchased high-speed tickets to Florence from Venice. Not a problem with my Visa card. Are you using an American Express card? I've heard that there could be issues with AE cards not issued in Europe. Have you registered? There is an option to buy tickets without registering but we've had posters who have not registered report some difficulties.
