Trenitalia Plus 3 and Plus 5

I am trying to figure out passes in this promo. It looks like it would be valid on all trains. And price seems very decent. It would give us great flexibility to be able to get reservations on the day of the travel, instead of trying to figure out timing months ahead. But I understand that I still need reservations and get assigned seats. Does anyone knows if there is a surcharge for those reservations? It is very unclear on the website:

It seems very clear you can't use those passes on trains with reserved seats, they never list them:

all regional trains , fast and metropolitan regional trains of Trenitalia

I see no reference to Intercity and Freccia-something trains, it's an offer for the cheap regionale trains and there are no assigned seats on regionale trains. You can't actually reserve a regionale train, you can only buy tickets in advance. Tickets to be used during a 4 hours window on the chosen day.

What makes you think other types of trains to be included?

Yes, my first thought was that the really fast trains (Frecce, etc.) weren't included, and when I saw the prices I knew the fast trains were not included.

Edited to add:

Here's the wording in the original Italian: "...tutti i treni regionali, regionali veloci e metropolitani". I interpret that as covering three types of trains:

  • Regionals
  • Fast regionals
  • Metropolitan (suburban?)

"Fast regional" trains are those that operate at slow speeds but don't stop at every little burg they pass through.

I suspect these passes might make sense for a tourist (like me) who spends 4 or 5 nights in a modest-size city and takes a bunch of day-trips. My day-trips are nearly always on regional trains; day-tripping by Freccia can be quite costly if you buy tickets at the last minute.

Thank you for clarifying all that. When i saw fast trains, I assumed that it meant Frecca trains too. But yes, the price was what made wondering.
