I'm trying to buy tix thru the Trenitalia website. They've assigned me a password, and then ask me to change it when I sign on. So far, so good. But when I try to change the password I get an error code, "generic error." I've tried several different passwords, but all fail. Can somebody help with this? It might not be so important to buy my tix in advance, but I want to take the train from Venice on April 10 and think the train reservations may be sold out by then.

My experience with the Trenitalia password is that you have a very limited period of time to change the password. I suspect that you may be waiting too long. I finally chose to immediately change the password within minutes after receiving the temporary one. Hope this works for you.

Hi Swan, I just purchased two mini fares today. I had the same exact problem -- getting that frustrating "generic error" message. I changed my password a second time just in case the system didn't accept my first one. The first one was caps and lower case and numbers and the second was all caps and then numbers. I don't know if that is what helped or not. Maybe the system just takes time. I tried several times before it worked. Keep trying! As Larry said, maybe there is a window of time to complete the password change. Best of luck, Ruth

Hi all,
I too have experienced great difficulty with their site - spent hours on it last night and got no where, this morning - it went like clockwork and I got the tickets. As for the password issue, try clearing your browser - sometimes that is the problem especially if you try over and over - just a guess. Hope it works.

I finally gave up trying to change my password and just bought the tickets without registering. They sent me an email with my confirmation and a link to print up the tickets. I don't understand what the benefit of registering in the first place when it was so easy the other way. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

same error here and it wasn't because i waited too long to use the temp password. i also tried to book without registering and then my card was denied. no luck booking tix tonight!

I had a lot of trouble with this site a couple nights ago - it kept rejecting me - the prices kept changing - drove me crazy! I don't know what the problem was, but eventually I was able to purchase the 9E mini fare for four of us - so keep trying....the savings are worth it :) Also, for the first leg of our trip I booked without registering and it went fine. The next day, I tried to book the next leg and that is when I had all the problems. I did register after that and then it went through.....doesn't make sense, but maybe they only let you book once without registering?
