I am traveling with my husband, daughter (20), and son (17) at Christmastime. We’ll take a train Rome-Venice, Venice-Bologna, and Bologna-Rome within 7 days. I’m thinking it’s most cost effective to buy the Trenitalia Pass, so we can take advantage of the discounted “youth” passes, as opposed to buying 3 tickets for each of us. Is it really that simple? Am I understanding correctly that, once we activate and book the routes, reserved seats are included in the cost? (Elsewhere on this website it referenced having to pay extra.) Just want to make sure I’m doing this right. We’ll be traveling December 25-30, so I want guaranteed seats because I’m sure it will get busy!
All Freccia trains REQUIRE seat reservations. You can't board without them.
But with the Trenitalia Pass, the seat reservations ARE included. It is probably a wash price-wise with booking now nonrefundable tickets, but you will have a bit more flexibility with the pass, knowing that last minute, you could be shut out of a particular train on a given day, or be separated while traveling (3 seats together not available).
