Trenitalia or Italo. Which company is better?

Traveling between Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan in mid-June for three weeks. Is one company preferable over the other? I’m wondering if Italo might be a better choice since they’re a private company and not susceptible to strikes? I’d like to be able to keep an eye on our larger non “carry-on” luggage during the trip. Any recommendations on that?

Also, if I buy our tickets now through their app and then put in an Italian SIM card (TIM) upon arrival, will the app and tickets still appear be on my iPhone?

Thank you!

Trenitalia and Italo are pretty much the same. Similar rail cars, similar transit times, similar exposure to disruptions, signal failure, whatever.
Trenitalia runs more trains, so their schedules might suit you better.

The two companies have comparable service level.

The possibility of strikes should not be the factor that drives your decision. If there is a strike, it could affect Italotreno as well. Also strikes are rare in June and certain essential services are guaranteed anyhow.

Your decision should be based solely in convenience of schedules for your personal needs, and of course price. Check both websites and then decide.
