Trenitalia kicks me out... "...data entered is not valid"

Full text: Error code :291 Any one of the data entered is not valid

I am trying to book tickets for July. The dates and trains and price levels are on the sight, so trying to proceed with purchasing one way tickets, Venezia SL to Firenze SM. I'm checking the box to not register. Takes names and contact info, then when I advance to the next screen I get the above error code. Since it's one way, I'm not filling in the "Back" info (though the area to fill it in is on the screen) or checking the "Round Trip" box. But this error screen puts today's date in the "Back" info. I think this is the problem, but don't know what to do differently.

Any advice?

Wait, summer schedules not loaded yet.

Check the Italo train schedule for that route - the summer fares are already available and you can purchase your tickets now. The Italo website is much easier to use.

Thank you for your responses. I'll consider Italo. I'm not liking that the trip takes an extra hour...but realizing the time I'm wasting on Trenitalia now!!!!

Ok, one more question: even though the Trenitalia schedules look to be up for July 23 - (I can pick the train, class, price, enter names....) they're not really until the schedule is final in June. So how will I know when they're REALLY up? Do I just keep trying to book until that magical day when I don't get an error code?!!! Thanks for your help.

I don't know why people don't want to register first (create an account). If your purchase transaction failed midway and you're wondering if it actually completed...go to your account and look at your purchased trips to see if it's actually there (or not). You can also reprint your tickets easily if you happen to lose them, etc. There's no reason not to, and your account will save all of your transactions so you can go back and look.

Sorry. I had read that you did not need to register. I will try that. (When the schedule is up).

As I just bought a ticket from Venice to Florence for the 23rd of July I thought i could sign up and add my two cents.
My train is the Frecciabianca number 9415 leaving from Venice at 9:25 AM. The system is up and running, and the schedule is real.
In fact it's exactly 120 days between today (italian time of course) and the 23rd of July.
Remember that on trenitalia.com :
1. You must check the box "Accept General Transportation Condition" at the bottom of the page
2. If you click the "I'm not registered" button you must write again your name and e-mail
3. Paypal always works on trenitalia, while american credit card companies sometimes block on line purchases they flag as "suspect"

I don't know if this helps, anyway there are still some 19 euros super-economy tickets left. I swear I just got one of them! Yesssss!

ps
Both Italo and Trenitalia make this journey in 2 hours and 5 minutes. Why did you write about an extra hour?

Tim: I tried to register, but it insists on an Italian address. I live in Minnesota. I don't know what to do. If I remember other conversations, that was why some people didn't register.

Darioalb: You give me hope! But still no success. My charge card knows I'm making this purchase, but I'm not even getting to the page to enter the specific charge info. I keep getting the same error code after clicking everything you mentioned, and that I will be using a charge card for payment. I guess I'll click the Paypal box instead and see if that lets me proceed.

Hi Peg and swathanna. To register on trenitalia, say you were born in Italy and just make up an Italy address - it isn't used for anything; you will get all your info online or via email. Once you register, it's quite handy, you can view your info and reservations online anytime.
(Plan B - there is another site italiarail.com that doesn't show the prices well and has a small fee, but if you know what train you want, some people report it is easier to book.) Enjoy your trip!

Checking the PayPal box didn't get me any farther, so I gave up and booked on Italo. Trains don't run as frequently if we need to adjust our schedule (purchased the changeable fare) but at least I have tickets now. I'll do this again in 6 days for our Florence to Rome journey. I'll see if I can book Trenitalia but I'm not going to waste my time on that sight if it doesn't work. Won't go into Termini, but not that big of a deal...our accommodations look to be the same distance from Termini or the southwest station ( can't think of its name right now.)

Thanks to those who offered advice and support. Much appreciated. Will have to file this one under "things that make you go hmmmmmm....."

Added: thanks Bob- I'll try that on my next round

I am having the same exact problem. Just tried booking one-way tickets from Milan to Venice and when I'm almost done with the process, I get the same Error code :291. It doesn't allow the transaction to go through unless you register, but when you try to register, it says it's only for Italian residents. It's done this 3 times already and I'm really frustrated. The Italo trains on that route don't leave from Milan's Central Station. Should I make up an Italian address and try registering first or book on the other Italia web site?

You do not have to register. When you are filling out the passenger info, do not list emails and phone numbers for each individual passenger. Just put in the names. After you click non-registered user, it will give you a chance to put your email. I recently purchased tickets for June and ran into the same glitch. When I stopped trying to put in everyone's email, it worked.

Thanks Kristen! I just booked my two tickets and left out our email addresses, except in the section where it asks for your email if you're a non-registered user. It finally worked!!! Ironically, before seeing your reply, I had registered using the hotel address in Milan. The other Italia web site was more than twice the price for the same exact tickets on Trenitalia. Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it. What a crazy web site... they really ought to fix that glitch.
