I am trying to book some trains on Trenitalia, and I am confused about the "FRECCIAFAMILY" and "Family" offers.
For ex., when booking from Rome to Venice, when I select a journey (train and time), it gives me "Base", "Economy", "SuperEconomy" and "Frecciafamily" options to choose from.
The description of the "Frecciafamily" says: "Children (aged 14 or under) travel for free when in groups of 2 to 5 people, to include at least one adult. Only one change and partial refund permitted until departure. Subject to seat availability." A window with more information says: "The offer is reserved for groups of 2 to 5 people, with at least one child under the age of 15 and one adult, and provides free travel for the children while all members of the group aged 15 or over are entitled to a 50% discount on the full Base price." Pretty great deal I must say!
However, in the same information window, if I scroll to see the description of other options, I see there is also a "Family" type: "Eligible trains: ICN, couchettes and sleeping cars. Excelsior carriages are excluded. This offer is reserved for groups of 2 to 5 people, including at least one child under the age of 15 and one adult, with the following discounts: - 50% (30% for couchettes and sleeping cars) for children under the age of 15.
(Children under the age of 4 can travel for free but are not entitled to a seat.)
&ngsp;- 20% for the other people in the group"
What is the difference between "Frecciafamily" and "Family"? The "Family" type is not listed for the Rome to Venice tickets (and for many other directions that I am interested in), but the "Frecciafamily" is. I do see the "Family" type says "Eligible trains: ICN, couchettes and sleeping cars". Is that the difference?
I just want to make sure I have the right tickets and to see if we are eligible for "Frecciafamily" tickets: we are travelling as a family of two - 1 adult and 1 child 14 y.o. (turning 15 later this year). The deal for "Frecciafamily" is really great.
