I posted earlier this month about not being able to book a train for May 1st. Your replies were, "maybe too early wait until February 1st which will be 3 months out.
Today I tried again knowing it would not go through and then it hit me that May 1st is a Holiday. I was able to book another train service with them for May 3rd.
Does this happen often that I can book the 2nd trip (May 3) before I can book May 1st.
Does the Holiday interfere? I can book with Italo but their train times are not conducive to our travel itinerary.
Confused in Canada
It is hard to say what the problem would be without knowing what specific route you were trying to book for May 1.
Sorry Jazz+Travel, trying to book Venice St. Lucia to Verona Porta Nova-May 1st. 4 passengers.
Looks like you are doing something wrong as I see many trains all day on that route for May 1 . Make sure you are using the Italian spelling.
Also many RV or regional commuter trains run on that route along with the High Speed Trains Frecciarosa that are going all the way to Milan. Regional or RV trains do not require advance purchase. They are fixed price they don't sell out they don't require a reservation they don't come with a seat assignment like the High Speed Frecciarosa trains.
Jazz+Travels, if you don’t mind would you feed the information for that route at 9.10 am 4 passengers May 1st, should come up with approx. 40€ Then click on continue, that’s when the “error comes up.
Shelley, are you trying to book using WiFi? I have an on-going problem between Cox WiFi and TrenItalia. No matter what I do, I get an error message. So I book TrenItalia via their app on my iPhone using cellular data. Worked every time I booked trains last year.
FWIW: I have no problems on the computer using WiFi for other trains, planes, local transport or sightseeing.
Ok, so I went to Trenitalia.com and inputted the date you tried and I figured it out. It’s too far ahead of time for those tickets to be purchased as the schedule hasn’t officially been posted. I did a hypothetical of March and it went to the payment page. If you wait until March you’ll be able to purchase your tickets then. But, to be quite honest, there really is no need to buy tickets far in advance for a regionale. Good luck!
Ok I see what you mean; the schedule for the regional trains may not be set for May 1 yet that is why they are not letting customers buy them this far in advance yet.
Is your journey on May 3rd on a regional train or high speed train?
Thanks all for your input.
The train I was trying book was the fast train from Venice to Verona not regional. The train from Verona to Malpensa Terminal 1 on May 3 was fast train to Milan then regional . I can book that one . Maybe I should just wait until February 1st to book the May 1st portion.
Been to Italy 10 times and never had this problem.
Shelley- I just tried to book a fast train on May 1 Venice to Verona and was able to do so. I didn't book - was just checking. Used my desktop computer.
“Been to Italy 10 times and never had this problem”
I’ve been traveling to Italy for over 25 years and we go every year and have encountered this issue occasionally and it’s ALWAYS because of the schedule not being posted yet even if it’s identical to existing schedules. It’s nothing new. The schedules are usually posted about two months in advance.
