Trenitalia Economy Ticket Change

Hello all - I purchased an economy ticket but plans changed. I know I cannot get the money back, but do I need to notify anyone that I won't be on that train? There is no cancellation option for my purchase.
And yes, this is the downside of purchasing in advance...

If you are simply cancelling the trip and can't use it for another trip, you are out the money. So I would not worry about it any further. You'll just be a no-show. Happens all the time.

It's going to happen to me in a couple of days, just toss the ticket.

Or offer it to somebody else who might be able to use it.

@Tim I was thinking that but we had to enter our names for the reservation.

Italy's Ticketless travel description doesn't say anything about a ticket being personal, non-transferable, or requiring ID. (If the documentation your received says differently, let me know.) The traveler just needs the PNR code. Some other countries' e-tickets do require ID (such as Germany's).

Italian train tickets do not have your name on them anywhere. I've bought scads of them the past several years and no names are ever attached to the specific ticket.

Every time I have purchased tickets ahead of time on Trenitalia and printed them, I have had to enter the names of all the passengers and they do appear on the printed tickets. Of course this does not happen when purchasing at a kiosk at the station. Thinking back to the most recent times I have done this, no ID or passport was required so I suppose all the agent did was scan the code, but there were names on the tickets. I cannot be sure if a man was sitting in the seat handing a ticket agent a paper with the name "Monique" on it, there wouldn't be problems... BUT it does say just giving the PNR will suffice so no need to even hand the agent the ticket now. SO... does anyone want 5 tickets from Rome Termini to Salerno?

I just realized I cannot give the tickets to anyone because these tickets were bought as a roundtrip and we will actually be using the return trip portion... which has the same PNR number (so I hope not being on the first leg doesn't cause a problem!)

No problem using only the return portion.

Tim: If you are registered on Trenitalia, your name appears in the ticket - I am looking at mine right now. You can be asked for identification, although this would be unlikely.
