Trenitalia.com website

I reviewed the old posts about this site but they didn't help.

I am trying to order train tickets but it says that it is REQUIRED to register. I tried but since I'm not an Italian resident, I can't get past that page.
An old post from January 2014 says there is a choice to register or not, but that is not the case now.

Any way around this or should I get the tickets through Rail Europe?
We're 3 adults traveling from Venice to Como, Italy on Aug. 16, early morning.

Thanks,
Laurie

I don't know, but I have had the impression from earlier posts that the registration requirement came up when people tried to buy regional tickets, such as Milan-Como. Try again to buy just the reserved portion, Venice to Milan. Registration is also possible; try that as a separate step, before putting the ticket in your shopping cart.

Hi Laura,
Thanks for the quick response.
I checked to see if I could register first and you can, but it still requires an Italy address.
I did only the Venice to Milan portion.

I checked the ItaliaRail.com and that may work but the price is normal fare of $180 (all 3 of us) as compared to the other site for $96.
Any other suggestions? Should I go to rail Europe site?

You can try calling their service center (during Italian working times) or emailing them?

I registered last year with no issues, and bought tickets for a trip last year. I'm returning to Italy next month and bought tickets 2 weeks ago from Milan to Florence and received those OK in my email. I don't remember putting in my address back then, and I do see on the register screen now Address is required and so is the italy region.

lm,

Don't buy from Rail Europe. You might also try Italia Rail as I think you'll find their website is easier to deal with.

Hi Laurie -

I noticed this issue as well when I was trying to order tickets from Rome to Levanto. And they said I had to register.

What I figured out was that whenever a "regional" train was included in the itin, the "Registration required" popped up. I knew that we'd be going through La Spezia Centrale, and so I booked our ticket to there, and I'll pick up the regional when I get to La Spezia.

I ended up just getting the ticket from Rome to La Spezia Centrale and it Worked perfectly, no registration required.

I noticed Rail Europe wanted more than an arm and a leg for the itin. Go to Trenitalia's page and see where the closest "major" station is that then has regional's from there, and book to the major station!

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!
